Her debut album, Skin, reached the top 10 late last year, and next week she’s up for two Brit awards — Best New Artist and Best Pop/R&B Act (against the likes of Adele and Dua Lipa). She wore traditional Bangladeshi dress to the ceremony last year — so that women with her background might actually be seen to exist in the British music industry’s biggest night of the year — then was dismayed to see it described as a costume.
This year, she’s hopeful things will be better, but she still rolls her eyes at the fact the Pop/R&B category contains no R&B artists and that Little Simz has been nominated for Best New Artist, four albums into her career.
